The costs nobody quotes

The chamber price is the part of the budget that is easiest to research and least likely to surprise you. Everything on this page is the opposite.

The chamber is the line item people negotiate. The costs below are the ones that arrive after the deposit, and in some installations they add up to a substantial fraction of the equipment price. This page separates what can be sourced from published data from what genuinely varies by site and therefore cannot be quoted from a web page. Where we have no source, the entry says so rather than carrying a number.

Oxygen delivery is a second purchase

A chamber pressurises. It does not, by itself, supply the breathing gas. On the published specifications, oxygen concentrators are separate devices with their own electrical and thermal requirements. The AirSep NewLife Intensity 10 is published at 2–9 L/min at 92% ±3% oxygen and 10 L/min at 90% ±3%, with a 20 psig outlet, 120 VAC 60 Hz supply, a power draw of 590 watts, a weight of 58 lb, dimensions of 27.5 × 16.5 × 14.5 in, and an operating temperature range of 41–95 °F (published specification listing).

Several consequences follow from that specification alone. It is a second appliance occupying floor space near the chamber. It draws 590 W continuously during a session, which is a real number you can put into an electricity calculation. It emits heat into the room. And where a configuration calls for two concentrators to reach a higher flow — Prestige publishes the Grand Vessel of Power Pro as using two concentrators for 20 LPM (Prestige chamber specifications) — you double the purchase, the footprint, the heat and the draw.

We could not source a published, dated retail price for a new AirSep NewLife Intensity 10, so this page does not state one. Ask the seller to itemise the concentrator as its own line with its own warranty.

Electricity: a number you can actually compute

US average retail electricity prices are published monthly by the Energy Information Administration. For June 2026 the US average residential price was 18.34 cents per kilowatt-hour and the average commercial price was 14.19 cents per kilowatt-hour (EIA Electric Power Monthly, Table 5.3, 2025–26 figures preliminary). Your state figure is in the same table and may differ substantially from the national average.

You can only compute a running cost if you know the load, and this is where sellers are frequently unable to help. Of the specifications we could read, the fabric-chamber end publishes a circuit requirement rather than a draw — the Summit to Sea Grand Dive lists "Standard 120V / 15 AMP Circuit" (retailer specification) — and the OxyHealth Fortius 420 publishes its compressor requirement as "110-120V" with a 1/3 hp oil-less double-headed compressor (manufacturer page). Neither publishes watts. The Sechrist H-series brochure publishes no electrical specification at all (brochure).

The one figure we can use is the concentrator's 590 W. At the June 2026 US average residential price of 18.34 ¢/kWh, a single concentrator running for one hour costs 0.59 kW × 1 h × $0.1834 ≈ 10.8 cents. Over 300 one-hour sessions that is roughly $32. That is the concentrator only; it excludes the compressor, any cooling, and any additional concentrator. We are showing the arithmetic rather than a total because the compressor draw is not published, and a total built on a guessed compressor figure would be fiction.

What to ask for, in writing

Rated watts or amps at operating load for the chamber's compressor, and for each concentrator. Whether they may share a circuit. Duty cycle during a session. With those three numbers and your state figure from the EIA table, the running cost is arithmetic. Without them, nobody can tell you — and a seller who offers a running-cost figure without them is estimating.

Electrical work

Costs here are entirely site-specific: they depend on distance from the panel, spare breaker capacity, wall construction, and local permit requirements. We have no defensible published band and will not print one. What we can tell you is what determines the size of the bill, and that is covered in detail on electrical requirements. The short version: a fabric chamber on a published 120 V / 15 A requirement may need nothing more than a dedicated circuit, while a rigid chamber whose electrical specification is not published needs the manufacturer's figures obtained before an electrician is even asked to quote.

Freight, liftgate and rigging

This is where weight turns into money, and the numbers are stark. A Sechrist 3600H has a published shipping-relevant weight of 2,220 lb, and the 4100H is 3,500 lb (Sechrist H-series specifications). Liftgates on LTL trucks are commonly rated in the region of 1,300–1,500 lb per lift (Freightera liftgate guide). A 2,220 lb chamber therefore cannot be brought down on a standard liftgate, which means a dock, a forklift, or a rigging crew — a different service with a different price.

A fabric chamber is the opposite case: the Summit to Sea Grand Dive is published at approximately 55 lb for the chamber itself (retailer specification), which is ordinary freight with no special equipment. The gap between those two delivery events is one of the largest hidden cost differences in the whole purchase. Freight and delivery works through the questions to ask the carrier.

The room, if it is a commercial installation

For chambers installed in buildings under NFPA 99 Chapter 14, the room requirements are explicit and have direct construction cost. Class A chambers and all ancillary service equipment "shall be protected by 2-hour fire-resistant-rated construction"; Class B and C chambers inside a building are not required to have that rating. The room housing a Class A or Class B chamber "shall be for the exclusive use of the hyperbaric operation." A sprinkler system to NFPA 13 or a water mist system to NFPA 750 "shall be installed in the room housing a Class A, Class B, or Class C chamber and in any ancillary equipment rooms." And the foundation "shall be designed to support the chamber and all associated equipment" (NFPA 99, 2015 edition, clauses 14.2.1.1, 14.2.1.1.2, 14.2.1.1.7, 14.2.1.1.9, 14.2.1.2; the enforceable edition is whichever your authority having jurisdiction has adopted).

Standby power is a further item. UHMS states that a generator should carry "24 hours of fuel," with 96 hours recommended in areas prone to extended outages (UHMS standards and codes FAQ). None of these items appear on an equipment quote, and none of them have a published national price band we are prepared to assert.

Consumables and periodic requirements

Filtration is a consumable: the Fortius 420's compressor filters to 0.01 micron (OxyHealth), which implies a filter change interval set by the manufacturer's instructions. Masks or hoods and their fittings are consumables, and fit matters measurably — properly fitted masks produced 96–99% end-inspired oxygen while improperly fitted masks ranged from 64% to 100% (Efficient oxygen mask for patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy). Sieve beds in concentrators, seals, zips on fabric chambers, and lubricants where specified all sit in the same category.

Acrylic windows are the largest scheduled item on rigid chambers. ASME PVHO-2 places responsibility for the safe service life of a window on the user rather than the designer, and provides that while windows in protected environments may have service life extended on the basis of visual inspection alone, "no window may remain in service for more than 10 yr or 5,000 cycles beyond its design life" without the testing required by its clause 2-7. It also defines two inspection levels, an Operational Visual Inspection and a Maintenance Visual Inspection, the latter to be performed by a qualified inspector, and permits an unused window to be stored for up to ten years from fabrication under stated conditions (ASME PVHO-2-2019, publicly available preview pages).

That is a scheduled replacement obligation with a hard ceiling, and it belongs in a total-cost-of-ownership conversation before purchase. We could not source a published price for a replacement viewport for any specific model, so no figure appears here. Ask the manufacturer for the window's design life, the cycle count definition, and the current replacement cost, and get all three in writing.

The honest total

We cannot give you one, and any site that gives you one without knowing your building, your panel, your delivery access and your chamber is guessing. What this page does is name every category with a real cost, source the ones that have public numbers, and mark the ones that do not. Take the list into a quote conversation and require a line for each. If a seller declines to itemise freight, liftgate, electrical work, concentrator, consumables and window service, that is information about the seller.
